A powerful earthquake struck southern China overnight, killing at least two people, collapsing multiple buildings, and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate as emergency crews rushed to the disaster zone.

Magnitude 5.2 Earthquake Hits Guangxi Region

According to Chinese state media, the magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck near the city of Liuzhou in the Guangxi region at 12:21 a.m. local time.

Authorities confirmed that at least 13 buildings collapsed during the shaking, while rescue teams searched through debris for possible victims and survivors.

Two People Killed

State broadcaster China Central Television reported that the victims were a married couple — a 63-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman.

Authorities evacuated more than 7,000 residents from affected areas as a precaution against possible aftershocks and additional structural collapses.
