The Meteo24News Tornado Center provides a live view of tornado-related severe weather across the United States. The map combines active National Weather Service Tornado Warnings and Tornado Watches with official Storm Prediction Center tornado-probability and categorical outlook layers.
The live map is designed to show both what is happening now and where the atmosphere may support tornado-producing thunderstorms during the next forecast periods. NWS warning polygons identify locations where immediate action may be required, while SPC outlooks provide broader probabilistic guidance for severe-weather potential.
A Tornado Warning is issued when a tornado is occurring or imminent based on radar, observations or other evidence. People inside the warning area should follow official safety instructions immediately. A Tornado Watch covers a larger area and means atmospheric conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, although a tornado is not necessarily occurring at that moment.
The Storm Prediction Center issues probabilistic tornado outlooks for defined forecast periods. The percentages indicate the probability of a tornado occurring within a specified distance of a point inside the highlighted area. Higher percentages therefore represent a stronger tornado signal, but even lower-probability areas can experience dangerous severe weather.
The Day 1 outlook focuses on the current severe-weather forecast period and is updated several times during the day. The Day 2 outlook provides guidance for the following forecast period. The map allows both probability and categorical layers to be switched on or off so users can compare the broader severe-weather risk with the tornado-specific outlook.
The NWS alert layer is checked automatically every minute. SPC map overlays are refreshed periodically in the browser so newly issued outlooks can replace earlier guidance without requiring the visitor to reload the page.
The live alert data originate from the NOAA National Weather Service API. Tornado-probability and categorical outlooks originate from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center GIS services. Meteo24News visualizes and summarizes these products for easier monitoring but does not replace an official warning service.
