Extreme heat shatters records across Los Angeles and surrounding areas
A powerful heat wave that has impacted Southern California for the past week continues to break records, with exceptionally high temperatures recorded on Thursday, March 19, across multiple regions.
According to the National Weather Service, several locations in Los Angeles County experienced record-breaking heat, including Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Palmdale, as temperatures surged far above seasonal averages.
Temperatures reach historic March highs
Burbank recorded a high of 99°F, tying the all-time highest March temperature previously set in 1966. The temperature was also 10 degrees higher than the previous March 19 record from 1997.
In Woodland Hills, temperatures climbed to 102°F, setting a new record for the highest March temperature ever recorded in the area, surpassing the previous record of 101°F set earlier this month.
Palmdale also experienced its hottest March 19 on record, with temperatures reaching 91°F, exceeding the previous record set in 1997.
Inland Empire also hit by extreme heat
The heat wave extended beyond Los Angeles County, with Riverside recording a high of 101°F, marking its hottest March 19 on record and surpassing the previous record of 98°F from 1997.
Santa Ana also saw record-breaking heat, reaching 94°F, beating its previous March 19 record of 91°F.
Temperatures expected to drop but remain above normal
Meteorologists expect a noticeable drop in temperatures over the weekend, with decreases of around 10°F forecast for parts of the Inland Empire as well as Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Despite the cooldown, temperatures are still expected to remain above normal for this time of year, indicating that the region will continue to experience unusually warm conditions for March.
