A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the Tarapacá region in northern Chile on Tuesday, according to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The tremor occurred at a depth of 111 kilometers (approximately 69 miles) beneath the surface. Despite the earthquake’s moderate strength, no immediate reports of injuries or damage have been issued so far.
Chile, located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, is one of the most seismically active regions in the world, where such events are closely monitored by national and international observatories.
