“Apologies for the inconvenience and we will provide an update on Monday.”
Eye-witnesses say the tornado ripped through Kidsgrove and Talke at around 5pm leaving large-scale damage in its wake.
A tree was uprooted in The Avenue with police closing the road for a short time but it has now reopened. Trees in Clough Hall Park have also fallen. Meanwhile, tiles came off homes and fences are down.
One StokeonTrentLive reader said on Thursday: “Police have closed the road on The Avenue near the Kings School after a tornado hit Kidsgrove this evening. Huge trees have been uprooted and fell in the middle of the road and on a closed down church roof.”
A resident of Kidsgrove wrote on social media: “It sounded like a truck was revving up our drive followed by crashes as our roof tiles blew off.” A second added: “I got my dog in like a second before and struggled to shut the door. Locked it and it almost opened. All my ears started to feel as if I was in a tunnel! So strange!” And a third said: “Our roof tiles have come down including insulation.”
