Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier is the first concrete fishing pier ever built in North Carolina. Stretching more than 1,200 feet (366 metres) into the Atlantic Ocean, it was rebuilt after Hurricanes Bertha and Fran caused severe damage to the original wooden structure in 1996.
