Severe storms turned deadly in Wise County, Texas, on Saturday night, leaving one person dead and multiple others injured as powerful winds caused widespread damage across several communities.
Fatality Confirmed After Overnight Storms
Local officials confirmed that one person was killed when the storm system moved through the area around 10 p.m. County Judge J.D. Clark described the situation as devastating, extending condolences to the victim’s family as recovery efforts began.
Emergency services reported that at least six people were injured, with several requiring treatment or transport by EMS following the storm.
Homes Damaged and Families Displaced
Initial assessments indicate that at least 20 families have been displaced, with many homes suffering severe structural damage. Roofs were torn apart, debris scattered across neighborhoods, and utilities disrupted as the storm moved through the region.
Authorities are still evaluating the full extent of the destruction, with damage reports expected to increase as access improves.
Search and Rescue Operations Continue
Emergency crews worked through the night conducting search-and-rescue operations, clearing debris, and providing medical assistance. Access to some areas has been difficult due to blocked roads and downed power lines, slowing response efforts.
The National Weather Service is currently surveying the damage to determine the storm’s strength and track.

Roads Closed and Area Restricted
Officials have closed several roads in affected areas, allowing only authorized personnel to enter while hazards are cleared.
Residents have been urged to stay away from impacted zones, particularly near Runaway Bay, so emergency crews can continue their work safely.
Disaster Declaration Expected
Local authorities announced that a disaster declaration will be issued to ensure that resources are available for recovery and assistance.
Officials also clarified that volunteers are not currently needed, with any future support efforts to be communicated through official channels.
Recovery Efforts Underway
As cleanup operations begin, the focus remains on restoring access, assisting displaced families, and assessing damage.
The situation remains serious, as communities across Wise County begin the long process of recovery following the overnight storms.
