The city of Grindavik In Iceland is facing destruction as recent volcanic eruptions in the Svartsengi system destroyed three houses and left the once thriving fishing village deserted.
Evacuation orders were issued on November 10 due to seismic activity and suspected magma. Despite initial hopes of returning home, further outbreaks occurred, with one eyewitness describing “the gates opening.”

There have been five volcanic eruptions in the past three years on the Reykjanes Peninsula, which is comparable in size to the West Midlands in the United Kingdom. On November 10th there were evacuation orders for Grindavik, where nearly 4,000 residents lived due to seismic activity and suspected magma.
But despite hopes of returning home, devastating eruptions occurred, including one near the Sundhnuk crater range in mid-December.
Gunnarsson, who witnessed the horrific volcanic eruption, described the seismic activity as “watching the gates open.”
