A magnitude 3.6 earthquake was recorded near Vallejo, California, on Thursday afternoon, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The tremor struck shortly after 12:40 p.m. local time, and while it was relatively mild, it was felt across parts of the Bay Area. Authorities have not reported any injuries or significant damage.
The USGS classifies earthquakes with a magnitude of around 5.3 as moderate and those reaching 6.3 as strong, meaning Thursday’s quake falls on the lighter end of the seismic scale.
Residents are reminded that even smaller earthquakes can serve as a crucial reminder of California’s seismic activity and the importance of earthquake preparedness.
