A minor phreatomagmatic eruption was recorded at Taal Volcano on Friday evening, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs).
In an advisory released at 7:12 p.m., PhiVolcs confirmed that the eruption occurred at the volcano’s main crater. The event was short-lived, with the eruption reportedly ceasing around 7:15 p.m.
This marks the latest minor eruptive activity at Taal, which last experienced a similar phreatomagmatic eruption on Christmas Day. During that event, four eruptive pulses lasting approximately two minutes were recorded over the main crater.
Despite the recent activity, Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest. Authorities continue to closely monitor the volcano for any changes in activity, while reminding the public to remain cautious and adhere to existing safety guidelines.
Taal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, with frequent low-level eruptions and periods of unrest.
