The Atlantic hurricane season 2025 remains active as Hurricane Gabrielle heads away from Bermuda. Meanwhile, two new tropical disturbances, Invest 93L and Invest 94L, are drawing close scrutiny, with potential impacts for Bermuda, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the U.S. East Coast.
Invest 93L: Bermuda on High Alert
Invest 93L, the red disturbance, is fighting dry air and Saharan dust that have slowed its development. Forecast models, however, indicate it will break free and move north toward Bermuda, with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) assigning a very high chance of tropical storm or hurricane formation.
If it strengthens, it will likely be named Tropical Storm Humberto. Residents of Bermuda are urged to follow updates closely as the system approaches.
Invest 94L: Flood Threat for Puerto Rico and the Bahamas
Invest 94L is emerging from disruptive winds left by Gabrielle and moving over the northeastern Caribbean islands, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands should brace for localized flooding.
By Thursday, 94L is expected to reach the southeastern Bahamas, where it may organize into a tropical depression. Forecast tracks diverge: some point north along the Florida coast toward North Carolina, while others curve inland toward Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina. Warm Gulf Stream waters could fuel further strengthening.
Hurricane Gabrielle remains a Category 4 storm but is forecast to weaken as it encounters cooler waters and stronger upper-level winds. It could affect the Azores by late Thursday or Friday, and its remnants may reach northwestern Spain and Portugal early next week. Residents in the Azores should stay in close contact with local authorities.
The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season continues to deliver surprises. Stay informed with updates from the National Hurricane Center and local authorities.
