Dramatic videos circulating on social media captured the terrifying moments when a powerful earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Taiwan on Saturday, sending buildings swaying and residents rushing for safety.
The earthquake, measured at magnitude 7.0 by Taiwan’s weather administration and 6.6 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), occurred offshore at a depth of around 73 kilometers. Despite its depth, the tremor was felt across the island, including in the capital, Taipei.
