A major roundabout in Swansea, Wales remains closed after heavy rainfall caused severe flooding, leaving cars submerged and disrupting local transport. The area most affected is the Cwmbwrla Roundabout, where a yellow weather warning was in place from Sunday until late Monday.
What Happened
Torrential downpours on Sunday overwhelmed drainage systems across the city. At Cwmbwrla Roundabout, several vehicles were trapped under water. Early investigations suggest that a collapsed culvert near the Cwmfelin Social Club triggered a sinkhole, worsening the flooding. The situation also caused power outages, including at a temporary pumping station.
Authorities’ Response
South Wales Police attended the scene during the flooding.
Swansea Council confirmed the road closure into Monday and urged drivers to avoid the area.
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water stated that while they do not own or maintain the damaged culvert, they are assisting with cleanup and working with local agencies to restore normal conditions.
What Residents Should Know
The Cwmbwrla Roundabout will remain closed until floodwater is removed and safety checks are completed. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. The yellow weather warning remains relevant, with more heavy rain and strong winds possible in South Wales.
