An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck Russia’s Kuril Islands on Friday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.
The epicenter was located 380 km (236 miles) ENE of Kuril’sk, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, and 650 km (406 miles) NE of Nemuro, Hokkaido, Japan.
Based on all available data, NWS PTWC said there was no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
According to preliminary estimates from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake might have been felt by over 410 people across Russia. Approx. 410 people were in areas with light shaking (intensity IV), the highest intensity this quake likely produced over inhabited areas.
