A moderate earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck north of Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, on Wednesday, according to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The agency reported that the quake’s epicenter was located approximately 71 kilometers west of Bone Bolango Regency in Gorontalo Province, at a depth of 103 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the earthquake. Authorities continue to monitor the situation for potential aftershocks.
Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes as it lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone where several tectonic plates converge, leading to frequent volcanic eruptions and seismic events across the region.
