A magnitude 5.8 earthquake was felt today in the Madeira region and in some regions of the mainland, without causing any personal or property damage, according to the IPMA (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere).
In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said the earthquake had its epicentre approximately 510 kilometres north-northwest of the island of Porto Santo and was recorded on the Mainland Seismic Network at 2:29 am today.
This earthquake caused no personal or property damage and was felt with a maximum intensity of II-III (modified Mercalli scale) in the Madeira region and with lesser intensity in the Setúbal and Lisbon regions.
