A terrifying cloud of dust covered Imerovigli in Santorini on Sunday, when a section of land suddenly gave way, sweeping everything in its path.
The video captured by locals and obtained by protothema.gr shows the dramatic moments and highlights the serious dangers posed by overdevelopment in a geologically unstable area.
The images are striking but also worrying: within seconds, the entire area was engulfed in a dense dust cloud, with residents and tourists watching the collapse in horror.
According to expert scientists who rushed to the site, this particular section of land is already heavily stressed by intense construction activity and is classified as a high-risk zone. They explain that the landslide was also contributed to by ongoing construction work for a new building in an area that is geologically unstable.
