A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Monday, September 15, 2025, at around 8:34 pm UAE local time, according to the National Seismic Network of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The quake occurred at a depth of 48.1 kilometers and its epicenter was located about 123 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, one of the main cities in the region. Tremors were widely felt across Kamchatka, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or major structural damages.
The Kamchatka Peninsula is one of the most seismically active regions in the world, located along the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench, where the Pacific Plate subducts beneath the Okhotsk Plate. This tectonic activity makes the area prone to frequent and sometimes very powerful earthquakes.
The event comes just days after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the same region, highlighting the continuous seismic risk.
