A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Ethiopia on Saturday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), making it relatively shallow and potentially more likely to be felt across nearby regions.
So far, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been issued by local authorities. Seismologists are monitoring the area for possible aftershocks or structural impacts in nearby towns.
Ethiopia lies in the East African Rift System, a region of high geological activity where tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart, often resulting in earthquakes and volcanic activity.
