Severe floods hit the Black Sea resort town of Elenite, Bulgaria, after heavy rainfall swept through the area on Friday, according to Bulgaria’s national news agency BTA.
Officials confirmed that three people lost their lives: one man trapped in a basement when water rushed inside, and two rescuers who had been responding to emergency calls.
Interior Minister Daniel Mitov reported that more than ten fire trucks have been deployed in the wider Black Sea region, including Elenite, to help residents affected by the flooding. Local television channel NOVA TV showed dramatic images of streets turned into rivers and cars partially submerged.
To strengthen the emergency response, the Bulgarian army dispatched two boats with rescue teams to support ongoing evacuation and relief efforts. Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov said the military remains on standby, ready to send additional forces if needed.
Authorities warn that more heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours, increasing the risk of further flooding in the region. Residents and visitors to Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast are advised to remain alert and follow official safety guidance.
