A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck southern Iran on Tuesday at 12:02 pm (UAE time), according to a statement released by the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The seismic event occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, placing it within the category of shallow earthquakes, which typically have the potential to cause noticeable ground shaking near the epicenter. However, authorities confirmed that the tremor did not affect the United Arab Emirates, and no tremors were felt by residents across the country.
“The earthquake had no impact on the UAE and was not felt by residents,” the NCM stated.
Iran lies on several major fault lines and experiences frequent seismic activity. In recent decades, the country has faced numerous destructive earthquakes, making preparedness efforts a national priority. There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties from today’s quake, according to regional media sources.
The NCM continues to monitor seismic activity in the region as part of the UAE’s early warning system for natural events.
