Iran among the world’s most seismically active regions
Iran lies on several major tectonic fault lines and is frequently affected by earthquakes of varying magnitude.
One of the deadliest earthquakes in the country’s recent history occurred in 2013, when a 6.7 magnitude quake struck the city of Bam, killing at least 34,000 people.
More recently, in July 2022, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the southern province of Hormozgan along the Persian Gulf coastline, resulting in at least five deaths and more than 80 injuries.
Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity closely, while emergency services remain on alert in case of aftershocks.
