Beryovkin Cave is 2,212 meters deep, making it the deepest known cave on Earth. Its entrance is 2,285 meters above the sea level in the Republic of Abkhazia. The entrance to the cave has a cross-section of 3 m × 4 m and is located in the Arabica massif, in the Gogra range of the western Caucasus, in the pass between the Krepost and Zod mountains, closer to the slopes of the Krepost mountain. The depth of the entrance shaft is 32 meters.
In 1968, the cave was named S-115 which was later replaced by P1-7 and in 1986 it was renamed in honor of Alexander Veriovkin. The speleologist and cave diver Alexander died in 1983 while exploring a siphon in the Su-Akan cave, located in the Sary-Tala massif, present-day Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia.
